Raw Banana Kofta Curry

Raw banana kofta, a classic among North Indian vegetarian recipes, goes well with pulao or rice. One of the best raw banana recipes for a special occasion. Raw banana is combined with a few basics spices and deep-fried to make wonderfully tasty kofta. The koftas become soft and mouth melting when dipped in the gravy.

Ingredients:
For kofta

  • 4 raw banana
  • 1 medium size onion chopped
  • 1 tablespoon gram flour
  • 1 green chili chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Oil for frying

For gravy

  • 2 medium sized tomato
  • 4 to 5 cloves of garlic
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 green chili
  • 1-inch ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mango powder
  • 6-7 pieces cashew nut
  • 1 tablespoon cream or malai
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Method:

  • For kofta – Wash the bananas and cut both sides of the stems of green banana, wash and put them into the cooker with one glass of water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles or till the bananas have complete softened.
  • Now turn off the gas, release the pressure from the cooker. Now take out the bananas from the water, peel and let them cool.
  • Mash them and then add all the ingredient, expect oil mix well.
  • Make small lime size balls(kofta) and keep aside.
  • Heat oil for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, reduce flame to medium and place the balls gently into hot oil. Deep fry to a golden brown and remove on absorbent paper.
  • For gravy- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds when they began to crackle add chopped onion and saute till light brown.
  • Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, chopped tomato and cashew nuts and saute till tomato become soft.
  • Now take away pan from the flame and let the mixture cool down.
  • Blend this mixture in a jar and make a smooth paste.
  • Now transfer it again on same pan and place on flame.
  • Now add fresh cream and mix well.
  • Add 1 cup water and koftas and bring them to boil.
  • Add garam masala and dry mango powder and mix well.
  • Now our raw banana koftas are ready to serve.
