Black Forest Cake

Eggless Black forest cake recipe with video. This decadently delicious eggless black forest cake is perfectly moist, full of rich chocolate flavor with a layer of chocolate sponge, whipped cream & cherries, adorned with chocolate shavings. This beautiful black forest cake is the easiest that anyone can bake.

Traditionally, Black Forest Cake brushes the layers of chocolate cake with cherry liqueur and then adds chopped cherries to the whipped cream filling. Here, I used fruit juice rather than a cherry liqueur.

Why do they call it Black Forest cake?

The cake is named not directly after the Black Forest (Schwartzwalder) mountain range in southwestern Germany but rather from the specialty liquor of that region, known as Schwartzwalder Kirsch(wasser), and distilled from tart cherries.

Ingredients:

  • All-purpose flour- 1 cup
  • Cocoa Powder – 1/4 cup
  • Powdered Sugar – 2/3 cup
  • Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Baking Soda – ½ teaspoon
  • Curd – ½ Cup
  • Oil – ½ Cup
  • Milk – ½ Cup
  • Coffee Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Vanilla essence – 1 teaspoon
  • Berry juice – 100 ml
  • Whipping Cream – 2 Cups
  • Chocolate Shavings

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes.
  2. Beat oil, sugar, and curd for 2 minutes.
  3. Sieve all dry ingredients(maida, cocoa powder, sugar, coffee powder, baking powder, and soda) then mix the cake batter and add milk as required.
  4. Transfer the cake batter to a greased cake tin.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 180 degrees.
  6. Cool your cake completely and divide the cake into 2 layers.
  7. In a mixing bowl add whipping cream and beat till stiff peaks.
  8. Place one layer of cake on a cake stand or serving plate. Brush generously with cherry syrup.
  9. Top with approximately 1 cup whipped cream and spread evenly. Top with approximately 1 cup of cherries and gently press them into the whipped cream. Repeat with remaining layers and frost the outside of the cake.
  10. Decorate with chocolate bark, chocolate shavings, rosettes, and cherries if desired.
