The \u201cI can\u2019t quite put my finger on the flavor\u201d cake. It\u2019s the sweet marriage of buttermilk and vanilla with a little cocoa for good measure. She\u2019s tall, dramatic, and completely covered in silky cream cheese frosting. This is my best red velvet cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red velvet is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mild cocoa flavor<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tangy buttermilk<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sweet vanilla<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Very buttery<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>These 4 flavors are essential to the perfect red velvet layer cake.&nbsp;It\u2019s dense and soft with&nbsp;a moist and velvety crumb.
